Ultraman Golgo is a former scientist from the Land of Light who wound up corrupted and defected after a string of unfortunate events. He is notorious as "the unluckiest man in the universe".

Personality[]

Golgo is an introvert and reticent Ultra, he doesn't like company and prefers not to socialize with others. Golgo can be described as nothing short of a pessimist, always seeing the worst in people and things, assuming the worst possible scenario.

His distrust towards others is reflected by his own lack of self worth, constantly fearing that others are conspiring against him one way or another. It's not rare for him to view someone as an enemy simply because he looked at Golgo the wrong way. The one thing he values most of all is his own personal space.

This mentality that everyone is out to get him has lead Golgo to distrust anybody who shows any semblance of kindness towards him as he'd rather shield himself from the outside world than risk getting hurt. To top off his paranoia, Golgo is also a perfectionist, finding flaw in even the most minor of details as he goes out of his way to correct them, this also extends to his obsession with cleanliness.

In regards to his more romantic side, Golgo is completely inept at forming a meaningful bond with the opposite gender and has no concept of a mood or tone, as such he often comes off as unnecessarily bold and cynical.

History[]

Childhood[]

Golgo was born as the single child of a standard family in the Land of Light. He was raised by his father after his mother passed away in the line of battle while he was still an infant.

The absence of a maternal figure in his life took a noticeable effect on the young Ultra's state of mind, especially regarding his tastes. It was no secret that he had a bit of a preference for older women, his first crush being none other than his middle school teacher. Likely a byproduct of the innate desire for the motherly affection he had been denied.

Training[]

Wishing to follow his late mother's footsteps, Golgo enrolled in the Space Garrison to one day protect the peace of the universe under the title of "The Ambassador of Light" he had grown to idolize so much. The idea of a life of thrills, protecting the innocent from harm's way on a daily basis was his dream from a young age, though he would soon realize that what he had in mind was nothing but a romanticized delusion.

In spite of the rigorous training he'd have to undergo, Golgo was eager to prove that his willpower capable of overcoming any challenge. During training and some of his earlier missions, he'd often find himself surviving increasingly impossible odds, earning himself the title of "the luckiest man in the universe" among his peers as a joke, though he took it more as a complement.

Ultraman Golgo: Birth of Paranoia[]

Once he'd graduated from the Space Garrison's academy and became a true Ultra Warrior, Golgo was sent for work for a small commando unit of Ultras titled Paranoia 5. With his team, he travelled the universe in numerous rescue operations against all sorts of criminals.

Eventually, Golgo and the rest of his team found themselves on O-50, defending the Warrior's Peak from a tribe of parasitic lifeforms driving monsters mad. There they met a new recruit native to the barren planet: Ultraman Aviator. The energetic and hot-blooded O-50 native initially butt heads with the more level headed Golgo, but when faced with a common enemy they were quick to put their differences aside.

Surprisingly, Aviator offered the captain of Paranoia 5 to join them, seeking the thrill of the hunt. During their time on the same team, Golgo and Aviator formed something of a rivalry, constantly struggling to outdo each other, much to the rest of the team's amusement.

During a trip to an tropical planet with volcanic activity running rampant, the two decided to settle their differences once and for all in a simple contest during their down time: whoever could last the longest submerged in the underwater volcanoes would be crowned the strongest. The two Ultras subjected themselves to the intense heat for hours on end, neither showing any signs of giving up. It wasn't until the other members of their team had to forcefully drag them out that they realized the consequences of their actions.

By standing in the way of the underwater lava flow, the two had blocked off the exit, which caused a build up of fumes and magmawhich ultimately resulted in an underwater eruption far stronger than what the crust of the planet was made to handle, resulting in catastrophic earthquakes shaking the land. That wasn't all however, awakened by the eruption was a monster sleeping underwater for several millenia.

Realizing that this was all their fault, Golgo and Aviator decided to work together and personally defeat the monster while the rest of Paranoia 5 tried to minimize the damage. During the climactic battle, Golgo was given one of Aviator's two twin Wing Sabers to wield as a weapon. In the end the two managed to defeat the monster and once the damage had been fixed, the commando unit was ready to leave.

Their actions would not go unpunished however, for causing such damage the two would temporarily return to the Land of Light until the HQ could judge the scenario at hand and determine what the verdict would be for the two. Taking a shortcut to the Land of Light accidentally lead their personal spaceship into an interdimensional wormhole which its sensors had failed to pick up.

Without warning, the wormhole had flung them into a place outside of time and space, but not before they could send an SOS. Lost in a dark abyss beyond the mortal realm and without any way to navigate, Paranoia 5 was in critical condition and the worst had yet to come. As it turned out, the mysterious dimension they had found themselves in wasn't unpopulated, a swarm of bizarre lifeforms alien to even the Ultras attacked their spaceship and tore through its armour.

The commando unit went into combat with their overbearing army of abominations, though their numbers proved too much even for them. One by one, the Ultras were dragged away into the abyss of darkness by the creatures and it was soon Golgo's turn to see for himself what this bizarre world had in store for him. Dragged into the void by one of the beasts, Golgo found himself lost in a dream-like state, floating through a bizarre wasteland of a dimension bearing shapes and colours his eyes could not recognize.

Before the madness could consume him, Golgo was promptly rescued by Aviator who dragged him back to the safety of their spaceship. With help nowhere in sight and their numbers decimated, their hope seemed to disappear. Golgo was the only one who had been dragged to the darkness and lived to tell the tale, describing the horror he had witnessed to his comrades.

Without warning and without preparation, Aviator flew into the darkness, lost in the abyss on his own accord, giving what remained of Paranoia 5 a chance to retreat. With help from the rescue team, Golgo managed to escape, however that was not the end. Immediately upon returning to the Land of Light, Golgo personally reached out to the Father of Ultra to rescue the missing Ultra. Impressed by the young Ultras courage, the commander heard his pleas and assembled a strike force to return into the spacial distortion and rescue Aviator.

Despite the odds being against them, the Ultras went into the abyss to find Aviator locked in combat for what could have been days without end. With their numbers increased, the Ultras managed to rescue Aviator and seal the distortion, returning to the Land of Light.

Due to the circumstances surrounding the situation, Golgo and Aviator were not punished as originally intended, however Paranoia 5 was officially disbanded, following the loss of most of its members. Aviator pondered why Golgo bothered to rescue him even though he had willingly sacrificed himself, Golgo simply responded that he didn't want to owe him one.

From that moment on, Golgo and Aviator travelled together as a crime-fighting duo, defeating numerous aliens during their time. However, just when things were starting to look up for them a shadow from Aviator's past returned to haunt him.

Long before he'd climbed the Warrior's Peak to become an Ultra Warrior, Aviator was an invader belonging to one of the most notorious alien gangs. After faking his death, he had decided to turn a new leaf and contribute to the peace of the universe. The O-50 Ultra was ashamed of his past, which is why he'd never disclosed it to anyone, but to his surprise Golgo couldn't care less, all that mattered was who he was now. The two worked together to defeat the gang and halt their efforts until its leader decided to show itself and another piece of Aviator's story came to light.

The leader of the gang was none other than his older brother who had recruited him in the first place, as it turned out it was something of a family business with the rank of leader being passed down from father to son. Aviator's brother mocked him, revealing just how jealous and petty he'd been during their childhood, his bloated ego and his fear of death.

These repressed memories triggered something inside Aviator, leading him to attack his brother without care, which ultimately led to his demise, stabbed through the timer when he recklessly attacked. In his dying breath, Aviator admitted that all he ever wanted in life was to achieve something great, but the chance to do so was constantly taken from him by different people, that is why he initially resented Golgo, but after coming to know him, he realized that he didn't have to achieve greatness so long as he had someone by his side to care for him.

Touched by his friend's last words, Golgo used his two sabers to strike down his older brother so he may rest in peace.

Upon returning home, Golgo's top priority was to officially quit the Space Garrison. Though still young and ambitious, overflowing with potential, Golgo had already lost two of the most important people in his life in the tide of battle. The horror of knowing that he would never see his rival again was far worse than what he had witnessed in the Abyss and so he officially quit, settling down for a calmer life in the Bureau of Science.

Life as a Scientist[]

At 6,000 years old, Golgo started a new life in the Space Garrison's Bureau of Science and Technology. It was at this time that his more eccentric side first showed itself, especially in regards to his own experiments and privacy. Despite receiving praise from the science committee, Golgo maintained a relatively low profile and mostly managed his own affairs.

It was during this time that he met Ultrawoman Echidna, a Space Garrison ranger whose injuries he treated with his limited experience in the Silver Cross. The two became close friends after the event and would often hang out while Echidna's wounds still healed.

Echidna proved herself to be a ray of light which lit up Golgo's otherwise monotonous life, though she was blissfully unaware of his past as a space ranger. As time went by, Golgo began to develop feelings for the Ultrawoman, though he never got the chance to confess them, fearing that he would lose her too like his mother and close friend. Instead, once Echidna's wounds were finally healed and she was ready to return to the line of duty, Golgo cut off all ties with her. It was at this time that Golgo began to hide his emotions, promising himself that he would only reveal them to the world and to those he cared about once he was "good enough" for them.

Downfall[]

One day while looking through the Science Bureau's files, Golgo stumbled upon those of Ultraman Hikari, a seasoned scientist who he had learned lots about, but never got to meet. Curious, he went through his history and learned about his achievements, such as his greatest invention: a method to raise the dead. The thought that one of his own kind had created something capable of cheating death itself did not fill Golgo with awe, but rather strengthened his grief.

It just wasn't fair. If they had this kind of technology, why couldn't it have been used on his loved ones? How come he'd never heard of it?

As he continued to read through the archives, he found out just why this miraculous invention had to be discontinued: aliens across the universe had managed to steal and replicate it, causing mass panic and resurrections. Struck with grief, Hikari fled the Land of Light and was never seen again. On the one hand, Golgo pitied his senior, he couldn't bear the thought of seeing his own creation turned against him, on the other he envied him. To possess that kind of power, the power of a god, was all anyone could ever wish for, yet Hikari remained a humble scientist until he saw the consequences.

As he searched the archive, Golgo learned of another scientist, one Hikari had personally instructed, Ultraman Tregear.

According to the files, Tregear was the inventor of a particular device handed out by the Space Garrison. It went by different names and shapes, but every variation designed by the inventor shared one common feature: the ability to materialize the power of bonds and merge an Ultra with a host.

Golgo had no idea that the transformation devices distributed to Ultra Warriors by the Space Garrison only dated to roughly two thousand years before his time, everyone seemed to be under the impression that they were as old as the first Space Garrison warriors. To think that someone so young could make such a fantastic invention piqued his curiosity, Golgo wanted to learn more of this Tregear and maybe even meet him.

In a cruel twist of fate, Golgo found the real reason he didn't know of the transformation devices' origins, Tregear had been practically wiped from the archives, all save for his personal file. What could have possibly happened to him?

Continuing his search, Golgo discovered that Tregear had travelled the universe for nearly eight hundred years, discovering the different kinds of bonds across the cosmos to perfect his invention. At seven thousand years old, Tregear returned to the Land of Light and finished his creation: dubbed the Taiga Spark which would soon be mass produced by the Space Garrison in countless different forms that the Ultras knew today.

However, not long after he had finished his invention, Tregear too fled from the Land of Light in search of Ultraman Hikari, only to disappear as well.

To know that his greatest predecessors had met such fates, to be forgotten and erased by the world certainly didn't paint a very pleasant image, but he knew he would never end up like that, the worst had already come and went for him. However, amidst his search, Golgo discovered an unfinished project of Hikari's regarding the 'Ultra Capsules' and 'Riser System'. Seeing the promise in his ideas, Golgo decided to continue them, earning approval from the higher-ups to revive Hikari's legacy in the form of his unfinished project.

Golgo discovered that the capsules were intended to lend the power of seasoned warriors to rookies, creation 'Fusion Rise' forms for them that used the abilities of their seniors. The brilliance of this device was perfected by Golgo who received an overwhelming amount of energy donations from senior Ultra Warriors to construct a wide variety of capsules. As he admired his invention, Golgo had a stroke of genius, he discovered a way to make the Riser System even better.

When the day had come to propose the finished product to the higher ups, Golgo demonstrated its ability by showcasing the different forms which could be achieved through it. Initially the heads of the Science Bureau were more than pleased with the results, until he presented them with something unexpected: a black capsule containing the genes of a monster.

Golgo demonstrated that the Riser could also mix and blend the powers of Ultras and monsters, achieving a bizarre fusion of the two different power sources, much to the shock of his seniors who deemed his work unethical and quickly shut it down, fearing that mixing monster and Ultra DNA would have negative effects on the bodies of warriors.

Without second though, Golgo's progress was discarded and all his work was taken away. In just one day, all his hard work was gone and he had gone back to being a nobody. All for what? Mere prejudices? In the end, he still wasn't good enough.

Ultraman Golgo Side Story: Twisted Heart[]

After being demoted to a simple scientist once again, Golgo's negative spiral had began. From the stories he'd heard about his predecessors and the fears of the committee he reached the conclusion that in the end, no matter what he did he would never be good enough. For every person he helped, another would be cursed in exchange, creating an endless domino effect of pain and disappointment.

At this point, Golgo was approached by a group of eleven alien scientists and their master, Alien Atlanta Hera. After hearing of his story as a space ranger and his denied inventions, Golgo had been scouted by the aliens to attend an experiment known as the Heracles Project. Their goal was to unite the greatest minds of the universe and attain the ultimate power, the force that would enable them to see the universe for what it really is, using the eyes of their soul. With this power, they claimed that they could erase all suffering and create a world of bliss where nobody would ever have to feel grief and regret. Once again, Golgo was overcome with hope, the belief that once the Heracles Project would be over and they could share the ultimate power, he could finally be good enough to reveal his true emotions.

Mesmerised by their words, Golgo joined the Heracles Project, believing that this would be his last chance to achieve something great for himself and for others. During his time in the Heracles Project, Golgo became good friends with Alien Mefilas Sly, another scientist like himself. After years of research, the twelve scientists under Hera's wing had compiled all their research, including what remained of Golgo's Riser System to achieve the ultimate power they desired. One day, Golgo was approached in secret by Hera herself and informed of a shocking truth: their was a spy among them, someone planned to use the ultimate power for evil but she had no idea who it was, thus she entrusted Golgo with the mission to take the power for himself and search for the traitor. Hera's kind words and the looming fear of all his effort being destroyed by a traitor resonated with Golgo, he couldn't afford to lose, not when he was this close.

In secret, Golgo stole the ultimate power for himself, becoming one with it and achieving the compiled power of eons worth of research across countless galaxies within his body. However, this power had an unexpected side effect, in order to view the world with the eyes of his soul, for what it truly was, he had to lose his emotions. The very emotions he had been hiding for so long, the emotions he planned on revealing to the world, the emotions that he would be proud of when he finally achieved greatness... were wiped from his mind. With massive power came massive consequences, Golgo turned into an emotionless, amoral shell of a person with no concept of empathy. He had attained the power to view the world for what it truly was and it was terrible.

Once the eleven aliens he worked with saw what he'd become, they immediately pinned him as a traitor and fought to take away his power, but one after the other they were slain without mercy and without fear. Sly of all people was smart enough to escape, faking his death to escape Golgo's apathetic wrath. When Golgo was finished, Hera personally approached him to reveal that there wasn't a traitor in the first place, she simply manipulated Golgo's grief and fear to turn him into the ultimate killing machine. Hera knew very well that her confession meant nothing, Golgo no longer comprehended morals or emotions, so he wouldn't hate her and he wouldn't regret his actions.

Yet Hera made one fatal miscalculation, it was true that Golgo no longer felt empathy or hatred, but his free will was still his own. With a single attack, the twisted creature in the shape of an Ultra wiped his former master off the universe and disappeared into the unknown.

With no more hope and motivation left in his mind, Golgo simply wandered the universe in search of amusement, any sort of stimulation that would temporarily emulate excitement.

Under the Devil's Wing[]

After three thousand years in isolation, Golgo was approached by someone he could never have expected to see again: Sly, now rebranded as The Sorcerous Sly. The Mefilas recruited the twisted Ultra in his posse of criminals to work for them, believing that Golgo would be an obedient pawn. The twisted Ultra could no longer comprehend such concepts as good and evil, so he simply followed orders in search of excitement, having no understanding of how his actions affected others even indirectly.

Among his creations were a special Legionoid sent to Earth, only to end up burrowing underground and forgotten, Dust Man an artificial life form designed to clean up and Zester, a homunculus created with his own DNA and that of a Hyper Zetton.

Having no contact with the Land of Light for so many years, Golgo had no idea of Belial's revival and played right into the dark lord's hands, inventing things for him without end all for the sake of satisfying his own instinct.

For a while, Golgo had locked himself in his own little world, mass producing everything his mind could imagine for his benefactors, even going as far as to create a synthetic Ultra with Kei's help: Ultraman Geed.

In his search for stimulation, Golgo remembered his old Riser System and began redesigning it. He hypothesized that with it he could find a way to entertain himself, to awaken the emotions he'd lost so long ago. Using the capsules of Ultras and monsters, Golgo managed to supress the ultimate power within himself and restrain it to revert himself to his original mindset simply to remember what it felt like. Holding back the twisted power that lurked in him, Golgo had discovered a way to revive his forgotten feelings, yet that proved to be less exciting than expected.

After eons of apathy and recklessness, all the feelings he'd compiled and lost suddenly came crashing down on him, overwhelming the Ultra with grief.

Ultraman Golgo Side Story: Remnants of the Nightmare[]

A year after the events of Ultraman Geed and the final demise of Belial, Golgo had regained his emotions but continued to hide them. After finally coming to terms with all the pain he'd caused, he masterminded a plan to destroy all that remained of Belial's empire along with himself, fearing that this was the only way to atone for his sins.

In secret, Golgo brewed a scheme by seemingly discovering a new method to revive Belial, when in truth he planned the demise of the Darkness Five from the inside.

Using a fake Ultra Sign, he alerted the Space Garrison to their location which sent a special task force of consisting of several Ultras, including Geed and Hikari to come and rescue the captive Ultraman Orb. Once the stage had been set, Golgo attempted to revive the ferocious Armoured Darkness seemingly to destroy the Ultras, though in truth it was nothing more than an elaborate suicide scheme to end all remnants of Belial's army, including himself.

When he least expected it however, Golgo was rescued in secret by Ultraman Hikari while Orb and Geed were busy with Armoured Darkness and the remaining Ultras held off the Darkness Five. Hikari had learned of Golgo's downfall and caught onto his plan, instead of letting him end his own life, Hikari urged him to start over like he did.

Golgo disregarded the senior scientist's words and disappeared, considering himself too evil to redeem before he vanished.

Golgo continued to search the universe for more years, having lost all hope of achieving a fulfilling life, he'd much rather settle down for something more peaceful. From that point on, he swore to never use the ultimate power again, fearing that it would take away his emotions and force him to commit atrocities once again. In the end, he wasn't even good enough to bring an end to the destruction he had caused.

Ultraman Golgo: Chronicle of Redemption[]

Despite Belial's army being long gone, the Reionics still reigned supreme over the universe. Elite warriors and Reiblood's servants dragged their master from the dimensional void he was trapped in and made a new attempt to revive the Reionics empire.

Under Reiblood's own command, he wanted Golgo captured and taken to him, hoping to use his "perfect hybrid body" for himself.
